He currently serves as an Independent Member of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, following a highly influential eight-year term with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, where he led efforts to reduce health inequalities and advance inclusive, community-driven healthcare strategies.
As the Founder and Chief Executive of Assadaqaat Community Finance (ACF) UK, Akmal has pioneered financial inclusion and entrepreneurial empowerment initiatives for marginalised communities. Under his leadership, ACF has become a key driver of economic resilience and self-sufficiency through enterprise-led development, contributing towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals globally, and The Future Generations Act in Wales.
